The Importance of Being a Good Digital Citizen

The theme stays present in "Untangling the Web" as it does with the first two books we read for class. Each has its own purpose but the relaying message to regard what your posting and how your posting it.  In this book, created by Steve Dembo and Adam Bellow, they introduce many factors that started the internet information era. These included things such as web tools, folksonomies, and site curation. Followed up by three examples of popular educational curation sites.  Symbaloo, the first example, is a simple to operate site that organizes its information in large icons similar to the layout of apps on a mobile device. The is clearly designed for educators at a elementary level since both the teacher and students can navigate this format quickly. Most children younger than middle school have an easier time with indicating icons rather than a long list of website links. Diigo, the second curated site from chapter one, this site is more intensive but also geared towards

Social Media with a Professional Purpose

After revisiting the book lol...OMG! to dive deeper into its advising content, I learned a lot of valuable information this week. When exploring the internet, we are now exposed to more ideas from a wider variety of sources, it is important to proceed with caution. Any publishing site can post, especially outlandish ones, whatever they please. Being a freshmen in college right now, with an unlimited amount of resources, this guidance is to avoid settling for the first website you find and put in the extra time to make sure the source is valid. Hence why its called a research paper, not a "any website will do" paper. Ideas of any blogger are just as accessible online as any other credible news site, such as The New York Times . Adding the hyphen on the end of the word along with the characteristics of the subject can help Google specify what you're looking for. Their are many more shortcuts to use whi

Introduction to The Digital World

I have been using social media for quite some time now for entertainment and personal benefits but using it in a professional aspect is rather intimidating. In the article  "Introduction to Blogging" by wordpress.org, they describe a blog as a place that maintains a chronicle of information, some are personal or some are factual. They can have a strong focus on one subject or cover lots of topics. My major is hospitality and tourism, throughout this course it will be interesting connecting these reports to my core of study. We were always taught as kids to be good people and the choices you make can have lasting impressions, its not often discussed how the internet can have the same impact. Using the internet is a responsibility, anything you post will be kept forever. That is why it is crucial to know what your saying and how others will perceive it. Just as Matt Ivester states in his book lol...OMG!: what every student needs to know, the Internet is much more public,
